COM 330 | Family Communication Interview

My first highlight is my Family Interview Oral Presentation in my COM 330 Family Communication course. In this project, I interviewed my dad about our family’s communication patterns within the framework of Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory and analyzed the conversation using interpersonal communication concepts from the course. The assignment required me to revise the transcript to remove filler words, identify themes within the interview, connect real family interactions to course concepts, and present my findings in a polished oral format for the class. I selected this project because it represents my ability to apply academic communication theories to real-world family dynamics while demonstrating growth in both interpersonal analysis and confident oral communication.

COM 310 | Visual Rhetorical Analysis of Denny Chimes

My second highlight is my visual rhetorical artifact paper on Denny Chimes in my COM 310 Rhetorical Criticism course. In this paper, I conducted a critical rhetorical analysis of the visual elements of one of UA’s most storied landmarks, Denny Chimes. I employ several rhetorical methods, as well as additional research methods, to put together a thorough analysis of the building and its storied past. I selected this project because it was one of the most difficult projects I encountered during my time in the College of Communications, and I believe that it best shows my growth as a scholar during my time at the Capstone.

2024 Greek Week Cereal Drive Challenge

While this was not directly involved in my Communication Studies coursework, I was able to apply what I learned in my coursework through a charitable effort to give back to the Tuscaloosa community. I organized the largest cross-council Greek food drive at the University of Alabama, the Greek Week Cereal Drive Challenge. Through this initiative, I used my knowledge and experience in Communication Studies to build an effective campaign based on target audiences and rhetorical appeal. Additionally, I engaged in effective organizational leadership skills that allowed the project to feed over 5,000 people at the West Alabama Food Bank, donating over 524 pounds of food. I selected this project because it is an effort that I am truly proud of, and it shows how I have taken my experience in Communication Studies and translated it into the real-world.
